Opportunities

Read about our open employment and internship programs. You can also contact us directly for any other opportunities not listed below, including graduate student rotations, research assistantships, scientific/engineering personnel exhanges, or short- and long-term research stays.

Partnered Programs

  • NSF GRFP: The NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program offers support for outstanding graduate students in STEM disciplines who are pursuing research-based Master's and doctoral degrees at accredited United States institutions.
  • DOE SCGSR: The Department of Energy (DOE) SCGSR Program provides supplemental funds for graduate students in the US to conduct part of their thesis or dissertation work at SLAC. The award period for the proposed research project may range from 3 months to 1 year

Undergraduate/Graduate Programs:

  • SULI Program: The Science Undergraduate Laboratory Internships (SULI) program encourages undergraduate students to pursue science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) careers by providing research experiences at the Department of Energy (DOE) laboratories. At the end of their 8-9 week internship, students will write a research paper and present their findings.
  • LCLS Internship: The LCLS Internship Program is offered by the LCLS (Linac Coherent Light Source) division at SLAC for both graduate and undergraduate students. During the ~10-week long internship, students will be exposed to a real-world research experience by working alongside a staff scientist or engineer, and at the end showcase their work at a poster session.
  • YOP: The Youth Opportunity Program (YOP) is a 10-week program for students between ages 18-22 whose total family income does not exceed a predetermined value. It is designed to for students to gain exposure to the workplace.

High School Programs:

  • RISE Program: The Raising Interest in Science and Engineering (RISE) program is offered for motivated High School students who are interested in science, engineering, math, and computer science. During the 7-week program, students are sponsered by Stanford University to work 30 hours/week at either the Stanford campus or at SLAC. Students work in an active research lab and recieve guidance.

  • DOE VFP: The DOE Visiting Faculty Program (VFP) is designed for faculty members to collaborate with DOE laboratory research staff on a research project of mutual interest. Faculty member participants may invite up to two students (one of which may be a graduate student) to participate in the research project.
