How We're Structured
We are organized into four departments:
AI for Science & Operations
- AI for Operations: Hardening operator-assistance and automation tools for 24/7 production reliability.
- AI for Science: Researching agentic frameworks for experimental steering and autonomous discovery.
- Data: Deploying ML-based reduction and filtering to manage LCLS-II/HE throughput.
- Safety: Establishing standardized patterns for validation, monitoring, and predictable deployment.
Data Management
- Develops the core hardware & software stack for data transport, metadata capture, and data storage & archival
- Manages data & storage resources, experiments & samples via the electronic logbook, and tools for automated run processing at local & remote sites
Data Analytics
- Develops the LCLS User Task Execution Engine (LUTE)
- Implements workflows on the Data Platforms stack
Data Platforms
- Develops the core hardware & software stack for DAQ/DRP, online monitoring (AMI/AMI2), and analysis framework (psana/psana2)
- Provides expert support to projects & operations
